Saturday 20th September 2025 – NIHL Laidler Division: Deeside Dragons D2 1 – Billingham Buccaneers 4
The Deeside Dragons D2 team put in a spirited performance in their first
home Laidler Division game of the new season but ultimately lost out 1-4 to
Billingham Buccaneers at Deeside Leisure Centre on Saturday.
This was a very entertaining game to watch with end to end hockey little to choose between the two teams. They were well matched in terms of puck possession and shots on goal for the majority of the game and the only difference was that Billingham were able to make more of their chances when they came.
It took until the 18th minute for the first goal of the game
– and that fell to the Buccaneers who took the 0-1 lead into the first period
break.
90 seconds into the second period, Billingham struck again to double
their lead but Deeside pressure was eventually rewarded with a Ben Roscoe goal
in the 35th minute.
The Dragons were unable to build on this, unfortunately, and a powerplay
goal for the visitors on 39 minutes saw them leading 1-3 at the second
interval.
Deeside continued to push forward in the third period but couldn’t make
much headway and a 4th goal for Billingham on 49 minutes rounded off
the scoring for the game.
The Dragons D2 team are away to Sutton Sting this Saturday 27th
September and are next at home on Sunday 5th October when they take
on Coventry Blaze at Deeside Leisure Centre.
