In the only game left to play in the Moralee Conference, Sheffield Spartans clinched fourth place and the final play off berth with a 1-7 win in the iceSheffield derby against Sutton Sting. The Sting actually outshot the Spartans 37-33 and were only trailing 1-2 after one period but conceded 4 second period goals without reply and were unable to pull themselves back into the game.
Reece Cairney Witter continued his record of picking up major penalties in big games by taking all bar 2 of Suttons 18 PIMs in one incident towards the end of the second period.
Sheffield Spartans will now face league champions Blackburn Hawks in the 1st play off semi final at Dumfries on 11th April. That game will face off at 1pm and be followed at 5pm by the second semi final between Billingham Stars and Solway Sharks.
