21st February 2026 – NIHL Laidler Division: Deeside D2 Dragons 7 – Altrincham Aces 9
The
Deeside D2 Dragons played their part in a 16 goal thriller but ultimately lost
out 7-9 to Altrincham Aces at Deeside Leisure Centre on Saturday.
The
Aces scored first on 4 minutes but Deeside equalised with a James Shaw goal 10
minutes later. Altrincham scored again
on 17 minutes and took a 1-2 lead into the first period break.
The
Dragons noticeably upped their game in the second period, outshooting the Aces
by more than 2 to 1, and were rewarded with 5 goals – from James Parsons,
Stewart Cutting, Charlie Spridgeon and two more from Shaw - to lead 6-4 at the
second interval
Unfortunately,
Altrincham scored two quick goals early in the third period to draw level but
Deeside edged ahead again with a James Parsons goal on 48 minutes.
The
Aces equalised once again on 51 minutes and then retook the lead on 57 minutes,
setting up a nail-biting finale.
Deeside
removed their netminder in favour of an extra attacker to try and snatch a late
goal and salvage something from the game but fell victim to an empty goal with
35 seconds left on the clock.
The
D2 Dragons have an away trip to Hull on Sunday 8th March to face
Kingston Sharks in a 12 noon face off and are back at home the following
Sunday, 15th March, when they entertain Billingham Buccaneers at
Deeside Leisure Centre.
