Deeside Dragons’
popular “enforcer” Will Harper missed the two games at the weekend, having been
handed a two game disciplinary ban for his fighting penalty in the Moralee Cup
final against Telford Tigers the weekend before.
He
was given a 1 match suspension for fighting and an extra game for having exceeded
10 disciplinary points, as he had already received a ban earlier in the season.
The
England Ice Hockey Department of Player Safety (DOPS) has a system which
involves the accumulation of disciplinary points for committing offences and
receiving penalties prior to, during and after games. When a player or team has
accrued a certain number of points – according to a fixed scale – sanctions
such as suspensions or fines can be imposed.
Two Telford players – Liam Bartholomew (2 games)
and former Dragons player Brodie Jesson (1 game) were also given bans for
fighting penalties incurred over the cup final weekend.
