The
new Deeside Dragons women’s team play their first ever league game this
Saturday 5th September when they take on Leeds Thorns in WNIHL
Division 2 North at Deeside Leisure Centre, 5.45pm face off.
There
hasn’t been a women’s team at Deeside since the demise of the Flintshire Furies
back in 2010 and the opening games of the season will represent a steep
learning curve for the new team as they have only been training together for a
few weeks.
The
team has a good mix of ages and abilities with a number of former Deeside
juniors, a few former Furies and some other experienced players who have joined
from other north-west teams.
The
Dragons Women will play in the B (Elizabeth) Section of Division 2 North which
will see them take on Leeds, Nottingham, Kingston (Hull), Whitley Bay and also
near rivals Manchester Storm twice home and twice away for a 20-game season.
