Prior to the home game against Bradford, the Wild NIHL team unveiled their captaincy team for the 2024/25 season.
Andrew Hopkins is the team captain for the new season, taking over the role that was vacated by Tom Jackson when he was appointed player coach during the summer. The Alternate Captain roles (AC) go to Bez Hughes and Jonathan Williamson.
The role of Alternate Captain is very important because, in ice hockey, only the Captain is allowed to discuss decisions with the match referee. If the Team Captain is on the bench at the time of the call, he is not allowed to rush onto the ice to query it and, therefore, each playing line has an Alternate Captain to ensure that this role is always covered throughout the game.
After Jackson, Bez Hughes is the Wild’s longest serving player, having originally joined for the 2014/15 season.
