Eagle-eyed Widnes fans will have noticed that the #64 shirt has been in evidence again at Wild matches this season.

The number 64 was previously worn by original Wild netminder Greg Ruxton who played in the very first in Widnes game back in August 2013 and stayed with the club for four seasons from 2013 to 2017.

Ruxton was forced to give up playing due to a recurring knee injury and his career at the Wild was recognised with a special on-ice ceremony in October 2017, which also saw his #64 shirt “retired”.

Commenting on the resurrection of the #64 shirt, Wild GM Steve Cunningham explained:  “We spoke to Greg and he is happy to honour the number and not retire it.”
