Saturday 20th June 2026 – BPIHL Match #6: Mayhem 8 – Peterborough Phantoms 1
The Mayhem sledge team moved up into second place in the British Para Ice
Hockey League table after an impressive 8-1 win over Peterborough Phantoms at
Planet ice Widnes on Saturday.
The game saw a Mayhem league debut for Jonathan Billington – one of 5 new
players who are in their first season of para ice hockey this year.
Peterborough arrived on the back two defeats from their opening two games
with a rather short bench but put in a battling performance and kept the
numerically superior Mayhem out until mid-way through the first period. The hosts outshot the visitors by a massive 9
to 1 in the first period and were eventually rewarded with a goal from Anthony
Booth on 8 minutes.
Karl Nicholson doubled the advantage three minutes later and then scored
again 2 minutes after that to give the Mayhem a 3-0 lead at the first period
break.
Peterborough scored a goal of their own on 19 minutes – only their second
strike of the season – but the Mayhem hit back with a straight hat-trick goal
from Nicholson on 22 minutes and a first of the season from Tom Kimm on 24
minutes to lead 5-1 at the second interval.
The third period started off with a goal almost straight from the face
off as Felicity Gregory edged the Mayhem further ahead. More goals followed - from Nicholson on 33
minutes and Booth on 38 minutes – and the Mayhem were able to celebrate their
biggest victory of the season so far.
A particularly pleasing aspect of the game was that new players for this
season Craig Riley, Annie Arnill and Maddy Howard all got their names on the
scoresheet for the first time, each bagging an assist.
The MVP awards were presented by Scarlet and Ruby and went to Kevin
Briggs for the Phantoms and Tom Kimm for the Mayhem.

In the other game of the weekend, last season’s league and play off double winners Sheffield Steelkings moved to the top of the table with a 4-1 victory over erstwhile leaders Cardiff Huskies
The Mayhem’s win
over Peterborough saw them climb into second, also leapfrogging Cardiff, but it
is still very tight at the top of the league table with the Steelkings, Mayhem
and Huskies level on 4 points each, but separated – in that order - by head to
head results.
This coming Saturday - 27th June - sees an intriguing 1st v 2nd encounter
as the Mayhem travel to iceSheffield to take on the Steelkings, 6.20pm face
off.
They make the same trip again a week later on Saturday 4th July to play
the Steelstings development team for the first time this season and are next at
home on Saturday 25th July when they take on the Stings at Planet Ice Widnes.
