Sheffield Steelkings took over at the top of the British Para Ice Hockey League table after a 4-1 victory over erstwhile leaders Cardiff Huskies at iceSheffield on Saturday.
The goals were
shared around the Sheffield team, with Gary Farmer, Bill Hardy, Jon Plummer and
Max Phillips–Brant getting one each, and Josh Davies scoring Cardiff’s only
goal, in the second period.
In the weekend’s
other game, Manchester Mayhem cruised to an 8-1 win over strugglers
Peterborough Phantoms. Karl Nicholson led the scoring with 4 goals, Anthony
Booth pitched in with 2 and Felicity Gregory and Tom Kimm got the others. The game also saw maiden assists for Craig Riley, Annie Arnill and Maddy Howard who are all playing in their first
season. Callum Shakespeare scored the consolation goal for the Phantoms.
It is still very
tight at the top of the league table with the Steelkings, Mayhem and Huskies
occupying the top three places all level on 4 points each, but separated – in that
order - by head to head results.
The Steelstings
drop to 4th place in the table, although they have only played one
game so far this season, and the Phantoms remain bottom with three defeats from their three games to date.
This coming Saturday - 27th June - sees an intriguing 1st
v 2nd encounter as the Sheffield Steelkings entertain the Manchester
Mayhem in Sheffield, 6.20pm face off.
