New Para Ice Hockey Club For Nottingham

Plans have been announced to set up a new Para Ice Hockey team in Nottingham

There are currently 5 league teams across the country – Peterborough Phantoms, Cardiff Huskies, Manchester Mayhem – who play in Widnes – and two teams in Sheffield, the Steelkings and the Steelstings – and the Sheffield club has also revealed the intention of setting up a junior team.

Para Ice Hockey is far from new to the Lace City venue as there was a Nottingham Knights team that competed in the British Sledge Hockey Association league (as it was called back then) for a number of years in the early 2000s. Other former league teams have included the Battle Back Bison(s) at Basingstoke, London Ravens at Alexandra Palace and the highly successful Kingston Kestrels in Hull.

The sport’s governing body – the British Para Ice Hockey Association – is keen to expand participation to other areas and has held recent end of season play off tournaments in Nottingham (in 2024) and Lee Valley (2025) to help spread awareness.

The new Nottingham Nightwings club are keen to hear from anybody who would be interested in getting involved in Para Ice Hockey at the National Ice Centre, initially by email to nottinghamparaicehockey@gmail.com

No prior experience is necessary and all ages and abilities are welcome.  Although the sport was originally designed for players with lower limb disabilities, able-bodied players are also welcome to take part - and playing equipment will be provided for introductory sessions.
