Saturday 7th December 2024 – NIHL Moralee Division: Solihull Barons 8 - Widnes Wild 2

The Widnes Wild NIHL team’s disappointing season continued with an 8-2 defeat to the Solihull Barons away in the West Midlands on Saturday.

The game started well for Widnes with Luke Alston firing them into the lead midway through the first period.  Solihull hit back, however, and two goals saw them leading 2-1 at the first period break.

A Mikey Gilbert goal put Widnes back on level terms early in the second period but, once again, they were unable to build on this and three goals for the hosts saw the Barons leading 5-2 at the second interval.

Three more unanswered goals for Solihull in the third period piled on the misery for the travelling Widnes fans and made the final 8-2 scoreline look more one-sided than the Wild performance probably deserved.

The Wild have two more away games this coming weekend - to fellow strugglers Sheffield Scimitars on Saturday 14th December and north west rivals Blackburn Hawks on Sunday 15th.

They are next at home on the last weekend before Christmas when they play Deeside Dragons on Saturday 21st December and Sheffield Scimitars the following day in a mouth-watering double header at Planet Ice Widnes.
