Sheffield Steelkings moved clear at the top of the British Para Ice Hockey League table after a 9-1 home victory over rink-mates Sheffield Steelstings at iceSheffield on Friday night.
The game was quite close
in its early stages and the Kings narrowly led 2-0 at the first period break. The
Stings scored first in the second period but 7 unanswered goals for the Steelkings
– and a goal-less third period - saw the defending champions run away with the win.
Ben O’Brien and
Daniel Clarke both scored a hat-trick, Gary Farmer bagged a brace and Matt Clarkson
scored the other goal. Lucas Thomas scored the solitary strike for the Stings.
The other game of the weekend saw Cardiff Huskies pick up a 5-8 away win in Peterborough as the Phantoms played their first home game of the season after three away defeats.
Peterborough put in
their best performance of the season so far, although goals from D-Jay Hall
(2), Callum Shakespeare (2) and Stacey Quirk weren’t enough to help them get
their first points of the season.
Sheffield
Steelkings are now 2 points clear at the top of the league with a perfect
record of 8 points from their 4 games to date.
Manchester Mayhem remain in second place on 6 points having been without
a game at the weekend.
Cardiff Huskies join
them on 6 points after their win at Peterborough but occupy 3rd
place due to head to head results between the two teams.
There are two games
this coming weekend with the Sheffield Steelstings travelling to meet the Cardiff
Huskies in the Welsh capital on Saturday – 4.15pm face off – and the Steelkings
away to Peterborough on Sunday, 4.10pm face off.
