The Mayhem sledge team dropped down to third place in the British Para
Ice Hockey League table after their second weekend in a row without a game that
saw other teams in the league catch up with their games in hand.
Cardiff Huskies beat the Sheffield
Steelkings B team (the Stings) 3-0 on
Saturday to move two points ahead of the Mayhem while league leaders Steelkings
A won 0-7 away to bottom team Peterborough Phantoms to maintain their two point
gap at the top of the table .
The Mayhem are back in action this Saturday 25th July when
they take on the Steelkings B team (Stings) in their final home game of the
season at Planet Ice Widnes (5.25pm face off).
They beat the Stings 1-3 away in Sheffield in their last game and are hoping
to repeat the feat at home on Saturday to boost their play off aspirations.
The Steelkings A team are away in Cardiff the same day and a win for them
in the Welsh capital would see them secure the league title for the second year
in a row.
It has been a fascinating season all round so far with some very close
games across the league and all teams looking capable of beating any of the
others.
Mayhem Head Coach Peter Hagan said:
“The season has been a bit of a rollercoaster, we have played well and
are unlucky not to have a few more points on the board, but sometimes the close
games don't always go your way.”
“We have been really excited to give several debuts to players new to the
sport, so great to see the team growing which bodes well for the club.”
“We have our final home game this Saturday against Sheffield's B team,
and no doubt another close game will be had by both teams jostling for play off
positions. We hope to finish strong & carry that momentum in to the play
offs, and who knows what can happen there.”
