July 2026 – BPIHL Match #9: Sheffield Steelstings
1 – Mayhem 3
The Mayhem sledge team remain second in the British Para Ice Hockey
League table after a highly entertaining and close-fought 1-3 victory away to
the Sheffield Steelstings development side at iceSheffield on Saturday.
The Steelstings had only played once this season so far – beating Peterborough
Phantoms 8-1 - and, with the Mayhem also beating the Phantoms by the same
scoreline, Saturday’s match looked likely to be a close- run affair.
After a nervy opening phase, the Mayhem opened the scoring with a goal
from Karl Nicholson in the 8th minute and the score remained 0-1 at
the first period break.
Felicity Gregory scored her first goal of the season to edge the Mayhem further
ahead on 19 minutes but the 2-goal cushion didn’t last long as Sheffield pulled
a goal back just 40 seconds later through their new Dutch signing Jurrian Raa
to leave the score standing at a very close 1-2 at the second interval.
The Mayhem comfortably out-shot the Steelstings by 2 to 1 over the course
of the game but the Sheffield team still looked dangerous and they continued to
push forward in the hope of overturning the single goal deficit.
The win was finally secured for the Mayhem with a goal from Anthony Booth
with just 2 minutes left in the game - and he also went on to receive the
Player of the Game award.
The Mayhem are now
level on points with league leaders Sheffield Steelkings although they have
played more games - and the Kings hold on to top spot due to the head to head
results between the two teams.
There are two games
this coming weekend in the BPIHL as Friday 10th July sees the first
all-Sheffield derby of the season as the Steelkings take on the Steelstings,
6.40pm face off, and on Sunday 12th July the Peterborough Phantoms play their
first home game of the season – after three away games - when they entertain Cardiff
Huskies at Planet Ice Peterborough, 5.30pm face off.
The Mayhem are next at home on Saturday 25th July when they
take on the Steelstings in their last home game of the season at Planet Ice
Widnes, 5.25pm face off.
