28th July 2024 – British Para Ice Hockey League: Mayhem 1 – Cardiff Huskies 2

The Mayhem sledge team put in an impressive performance against league leaders Cardiff Huskies before ultimately losing out 1-2 at Planet Ice Widnes on Sunday.

As the score suggests, this was a very close game – with barely room for the metaphorical cigarette paper between the two teams – and, as such, the result could have gone either way until the very last seconds.

The Mayhem slightly edged the first period, but it took until the 13th minute for the first goal –which fell to Anthony Booth on a powerplay punishing Cardiff t-boning penalty.

The score remained 1-0 at the first period break and it was still 1-0 heading into the last minute of the second period as well. The Mayhem had successfully killed off a penalty of their own for t-boning but then got caught out with a Cardiff strike just 26 seconds before the buzzer to tie the game at 1-1.

A second goal for Cardiff three minutes into the third period edged them into the lead for the first time and, try as they might, the Mayhem were unable to muster any sort of reply.

The two teams meet again on Saturday 3rd August in the Welsh capital –6.25pm face off – in what will be the Mayhem’s last game of the regular season.
