The Deeside Ducks have announced the signing of Luke Wainwright to add to their roster for the forthcoming  2024/25 Laidler Division season.

The 22 year old defenceman is a former Deeside junior and was captain of both the Under 15 and Under 18 Dragons sides.

He has played over 70 competitive matches for Deeside Juniors and is currently a member of the Connah’s Quay Cobras recreational team that has won through to the Summer Cup Play offs.

Talking about joining the Ducks, Luke said:  “I'm very excited to be joining this hockey team for the next season and am looking forward to competing at a high level and improving as a player.”

Ducks Assistant Coach Stewart Cutting said of Wainwright: “Players like Luke are exactly what the Ducks team has been created for - junior players who aged out during covid and did not get the opportunity to develop their game in the adult leagues. Now he gets that opportunity.”

“The speed and skill he has when moving up the ice, and his work ethic and commitment when defending, make him an asset to the team. I'm looking forward to watching his development over the coming season.”
