The Sheffield Steelkings’ netminding pairing of Jonathan Gill and Damien Barker have the best figures between the posts this season and Gill now tops the netminding standings at the mid-way point of the season, having finally acquired enough qualifying minutes.
His Goals Against Average of a miserly 0.96 is actually
bettered by Barker’s highly impressive 0.00 but Damien is currently 4 minutes
short of making the main chart.
We have had three shared shut outs this season so far and,
in a new innovation that is not used in a lot of other major leagues, we are
celebrating those achievements rather than discounting them.
As such, when more than one netminder takes part in a shut
out game, ie where their team wins by something to nil – unlike the NHL, for
example – the BPIHA will be crediting them with a share of the shut out. This
will be either ½, ⅓ or ⅔, depending on what proportion of
the game they actually played.
A complete 45 minute shut out by one single netminder,
however, trumps an accumulation of shared shut outs.
This means that, at the present time, Manchester Mayhem’s
Daniel Hartshorn tops the Netminder’s Shut Out Standings with his opening day clean
sheet, ahead of Gill and Barker who both have ⅓+⅔, which were shared over
two separate games.
