The Deeside Dragons NIHL2 team have announced the signing of one returnee and a new young prospect as they continue to build their roster for the forthcoming 2025/26 Laidler Division season.

The returning player is Stewart Cutting who was an important asset for the hitherto Deeside Ducks team last season where he was a player coach.

The former Slough Jet, Swindon Wildcat and Connah’s Quay Cobra contributed 5 goals and 4 assists in 19 games – without picking up a single penalty.

Talking about rejoining the Laidler team for a second term, Cutting said:

“A club’s first season is always a step into the unknown. Seeing how the team developed over the course of the year, it was clear to me that there’s something special worth staying for at Deeside. I’m looking forward to pushing harder and seeing what we can achieve this season.”

Assistant Coach Simon Hughes commented:  “Stewart Cutting’s a solid 10! He was instrumental as both a player and coach during the Ducks’ inaugural season. His leadership as an Alternate Captain and Level 2 coach was a major asset in developing our younger players. He’s a popular and skilful player who brings versatility—playing both forward and defence without hesitation. We’re pleased to welcome him back as part of the Dragons N2 setup and look forward to another big year from our #10!”

Continuing with the Ducks’ policy from last season of encouraging and developing younger players, the club have also signed promising defenceman Oliver “Ollie” Price.

He has progressed through the Deeside junior ranks, most recently representing the U18s and U19s, and now takes the next step in his hockey journey as he begins his senior career.

Talking about stepping up to the Dragons NIHL2 team, Price said:

“I’m thrilled to be given the opportunity to play for my first senior team. It’s a huge milestone in my journey, and I’m incredibly grateful for the chance to grow and contribute. After a strong season with the Under 19s I’m super excited to learn and develop further.

Dragons coach James Parsons commented:

“Ollie is a great lad who works hard and has a fantastic attitude towards the game. We’re really looking forward to working with him this season as he makes the transition into senior hockey.”
