Sheffield Spartans’ 4-1 defeat at Solway Sharks was their 4th
defeat in a row and the team that looked good for a top 4 finish a while back
is now somewhat adrift 3 points behind the rest of the pack with just games
left to play. Two of those games are
against bottom team Manchester Minotaurs, which might help them climb back into
the mix and they could then have an iceSheffield showdown against Sutton Sting
– currently in 4th place after a 3-0 shut out at Blackburn Hawks - on 28th
March to decide who goes eventually goes through.
That Sharks win moved them up into 3rd place with a 5 point
cushion over the Spartans and 3 points behind Billingham Stars who beat them
6-3 on Sunday night and won 0-8 away at Minotaurs 24 hours earlier.
Blackburn Hawks – already confirmed as champions remain unbeaten
following their 2-5 win away at Whitley Warriors on Sunday. That result leaves Warriors 6 points adrift
of the play off places – albeit with a game in hand over everybody else above
them – but with 2 games each against both Billingham Stars and Solway Sharks
still to come, it is hard to see Whitley doing any better than featuring in the
end-of-season relegation play off.
